A C Marine & Composites is delighted to confirm that the Atlantis Resources AR1500 tidal turbine has been installed at the MeyGen site in the Pentland Firth. The 1.5 megawatt turbine hit full power following installation and is already exporting to the grid. The three rotor blades were manufactured in house by A C Marine & Composites.
Sigmatex, the world’s leading independent converter of carbon fibre, will exhibit in Paris at JEC World (next month between 12 – 16 March) - the largest composites networking event. Sigmatex develops and manufactures technical textiles for composite material applications and will be in hall 6 on booth G5.
On stand at the exhibition, Sigmatex will reveal one of Reebok CCM Hockey’s new 2017 sticks – SuperTacks 2.0. The stick utilises sigmaST - Sigmatex’s Spread Tow carbon fibre and is designed to achieve maximum performance through lightweight, precision and strength.

NCC Associate Member, Huntsman Advanced Materials’, commitment to innovation and process improvement was tested to the full on a recent lighthouse project led by ACCIONA Infraestructuras. Working in collaboration with various partners an outstanding result was achieved which went on to win one of the prestigious 2016 JEC World Innovation Awards.
NCC Tier 2 Member and UK-based composite aerostructures, assemblies and components provider, AGC AeroComposites, has developed a new, low-cost thermoplastic composite welding technique. Developed under AGC’s CoFusion project, the new welding technique can be used on both flat and curvature components. Receiving funding from the National Aerospace Technology Exploitation Programme (NATEP), CoFusion showed that carbon/polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) composite thermoformed components can be welded to produce complex assemblies.

The ‘Breakthrough Aerospace Materials’ project, known as BAM, commenced March 2016. The 3 year ATI project looks to advance the manufacturing techniques and simulation of 3D textiles in the UK and to make them commercially available to the aerospace industry. Currently, the use of 3D textile composites is held back by a lack of analysis techniques that are able to accurately predict weave architectures and the resulting processing and structural performance.

As the cost and supply of carbon remains a prohibitive factor for OEM’s, ELG Carbon Fibre is presenting a range of recycled carbon products for use in automotive applications that offer significant weight savings at an affordable cost.
Huntsman Advanced Materials has developed a new epoxy resin system and a new efficient process which could give an entirely new compression moulding concept.
According to the company, the new compression moulding process, which uses a fast-cure Araldite epoxy, makes it possible to make structural composite parts with cycle times as low as one minute without any further post-curing. It is also suitable for making structural parts using thermoset technology for high-volume applications such as automotive.
AIC Group has completed delivery of an advanced composite processing oven to Terma Aerostructures A/S in Denmark. Designed to give outstanding performance to aerospace material specification pyrometry standard AMS2570E with exceptional temperature uniformity and increased energy efficiency, the oven will be used for production of advanced aircraft components.

Hexcel is to have its innovative CFRP technology introduced in the BMW 7 Series where it is used to save weight and reinforce the metal shell of the B-pillar.
Hexcel supplies BMW with preforms made of unidirectional carbon prepreg set in various orientations and combined with adhesive. The prepreg is made from Hexcel's HexPly M77 resin system that cures in 1.5 minutes at 160 degrees Celsius.

STAMFORD, Connecticut (January 5, 2016) - Hexcel Corporation (NYSE:HXL) announced today that it has acquired full ownership of Formax UK Limited. Hexcel acquired a 50% interest in the privately-owned company in December 2014.

AIC Group announced today (11th November) that it has won an order to upgrade two autoclaves of a major Japanese aerospace company with its AMCS (Autoclave Management and Control System) and other features.
One of the autoclaves measures 8.5m in diameter and 40m in length, which presents unique challenges to ensure even heating and cooling, and is used for curing complete composite wings. The other measures 3.5m x 12m.

Since the company’s launch in 1990, they have expanded from Aeroform product support to providing services and advanced industrial process equipment to the major companies in aerospace, automotive and Formula 1 industries.
Aerothermal Group and AIC Group today (21 September) announced that they have successfully completed the move of an 18ft diameter autoclave from Scunthorpe to UTC Aerospace’s Prestwick facility.
The autoclave is so large that the move required the Highways Agency to make special arrangements for the transfer.
This is a major milestone in the contract to provide UTC with a custom-built state-of-the-art autoclave, won by Poole-based companies AIC Group and Aerothermal Group.
AIC Group announced today (17th August) that it is refurbishing a 3m x 10m autoclave for a global North American aerospace company. AIC will refit the autoclave with various features, including its Autoclave Management and Control System (AMCS).
The aerospace company bought the autoclave for its South American jet building facility, which employs 1500 people. The autoclave needs to be up and running by late September, which ruled out buying a new autoclave. AIC will deliver it in the first week of August.
