Meggitt Polymers & Composites celebrates first year of membership at the National Composites Centre (NCC) and finalises second acquisition in one year

•    Meggitt  and NCC partnership to bring greater value to UK industrial base
•    Acquisitions enhance Meggitt’s materials, manufacturing and product offering

As Meggitt Polymers & Composites approaches its first anniversary as a Member of the National Composites Centre (NCC), the company has finalised its second acquisition in a year, obtaining the advanced composites businesses of Cobham plc and EDAC.

Meggitt Polymers & Composites is part of the FTSE-100 global engineering group (FTSE: MGGT), specialising in extreme-environment components and sub- systems for the aerospace, defence and energy industries. Meggitt joined the NCC in the spring of 2015 and is now one of 41 Members from a wide variety of sectors including aerospace, automotive, renewable energy, oil and gas, transportation, and security and defence.

Tom Hitchings, Business Development Director at the NCC, said: “We are very pleased to continue our partnership with Meggitt. We’re sure that Meggitt’s recent acquisitions will bring very exciting opportunities to the composites industry. Working with them, we hope to enable even greater value to the UK industrial base.”

In the last year, Meggitt used the centre’s cutting-edge facilities to further expand its multi-functional composites capability, conducting warp and weft material analysis, ice protection development activities and contributing to the resin transfer tunnel component in the fifth year of the NCC core programme.

The NCC membership continues to grow rapidly, with the addition of five new Members in the last membership year alone. Companies range from carbon composite motorcycle wheel manufacturers to providers of seabed-surface engineering construction services.   Meggitt will continue to reap the benefits of the networking and research and development opportunities the NCC membership brings. These include the use of state-of-the-art equipment, specialist software and access to expertise that enables world-class innovation for the application of composites.

David Horner, President of Meggitt Polymers & Composites, commented: “These recent acquisitions substantially enhance our materials, manufacturing technologies and complex composites product offering. We are now very well positioned to meet a growing demand for the high performance, lightweight materials that will be a pervasive feature of next generation aircraft.”

Last year Meggitt went through a period of substantial growth, acquiring the composites division of EDAC and existing NCC Tier 2 member, Cobham Advanced Composites and other advanced composites businesses from Cobham plc.  They will be integrated into Meggitt’s polymers and composites division, complementing its existing extreme environment composites product offering and extending its core capabilities significantly.
