The National Composites Centre (NCC) is pleased to welcome new Associate Member, Bristol-based INSPHERE Ltd. The partnership will enhance the metrology capability to support existing world-class composites manufacturing and testing equipment at the NCC.

INSPHERE Ltd is a specialist metrology company providing measurement related services to high value manufacturing organisations. Working with a range of clients across industry sectors such as aerospace, automotive and oil and gas, their work aims to increase productivity and enhances value added manufacturing process activities.

The Bloodhound project is having its world debut in London Canary Wharf on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th September. This project aims to design a supersonic car that can not only go faster than the speed of sound (supersonic) but aims to go over 1,000mph (1,600km/h), covering a mile in just 3.6 seconds.  With three power sources, Bloodhound SSC (supsersonic car) can generate 135,000 thrust horsepower - the equivalent of 180 Formula One cars!

The NCC-sponsored Cambridge University Eco Racing Team (CUER) will be racing Evolution in the World Solar Challenge in four weeks’ time. CUER is a 60 strong student organisation that designs, builds and races solar powered vehicles. Since their founding in 2007 they have become the UK’s number one for solar vehicle development.

Last week, the NCC exhibited as part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult at Offshore Europe 2015, one of the world’s largest technical exhibitions for the oil and gas sector. The event is held in Aberdeen every two years and attracts over 1,500 exhibitors and 63,000 professionals from 100+ countries.

A new collaboration between the High Value Manufacturing (HVM) Catapult and the Oil & Gas Innovation Centre (OGIC) will enable the oil and gas sector to access advanced capabilities that can drive down manufacturing costs and enhance the materials in use in industry.

Under the new agreement, OGIC will host a representative from HVM Catapult in its Aberdeen office to support engagement with the oil and gas industry and drive cross-industry collaboration and innovation.

On 14th October 2015, the National Composites Centre will be hosting the Defence Academic Pathways (DAP) for both Knowledge Exchange and Commercialisation professionals, and academic research colleagues.

DAP is a partnership led by Dstl and includes major industrial partners BAE Systems, GE, MBDA, Selex, QinetiQ and Thales, together with representatives from EPSRC, Innovate UK and a university liaison advisor.
