Composite Joining Principles

Tuesday, 30 Nov - Friday, 03 Dec 2021

Composite parts live and breathe by their joints. As a Designer, they are usually the first, and most challenging point to consider in a project. It’s also the area that’s most likely to fail if you get it wrong.

Led by the experts from our Design and Simulation team, this course is designed to introduce you to the fundamentals of composites joining. We’ll talk you through the various methods available and help you make decisions on selecting the best approach.

What we'll cover:

  • What to consider in multi-material joining
    • Key polymer & hybrid joining methods
    • Emerging joining methods
  • Bolted Joints
    • Design approach
    • Calculating load capacity
    • Calculating failure modes
  • Bonded joints
    • How bonded joints transfer loads
    • Design approach
    • Calculating load capacity
    • Manufacture, assembly and test
