- Title: Ceramic Matrix Composites: Because Rockets Can’t Handle the Heat
- Date and Time: Thursday 28 November at 1.00 pm
- Presenter: Dr. Konstantina Kanari, National Composites Centre
Abstract
Ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) are an increasingly vital technology in space exploration, helping rockets and spacecrafts remain cool under extreme heat. They combine the strength and durability of ceramics with the flexibility of reinforcing fibres, and they are ideal for components exposed to high temperatures, such as heat shields, nozzles, and thermal protection systems on spacecraft and rockets. By improving the manufacturability of CMCs and automating their production we will be able to use them in a range of applications in the future, from launching satellites to exploring distant planets.
Join Konstantina for this insightful session to learn more about the technology that could help space exploration reach new heights.
