Helping inspire the next generation of STEM talent
A new book being distributed to secondary schools across the UK is showcasing the people behind some of today's most important scientific and engineering advances, and highlighting the many pathways into STEM careers.
Scientists Making a Difference, authored by Dr Shini Somara, features 47 scientists and engineers from across the UK who are using their skills to tackle real-world challenges. Among them is Thomas Warr, a Composites Technician at NCC.
Through personal stories and career journeys, the book aims to help young people see the breadth of opportunities available in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, while demonstrating that there is no single route into a STEM career.
Thomas's feature explores his journey into engineering and the role materials science plays in shaping the technologies of the future. As part of his work at NCC, he supports the development and testing of advanced composite materials that enable innovation across a wide range of industries.
The book will be distributed to secondary schools nationwide, helping students discover careers they may never have previously considered and encouraging more young people to see themselves as future scientists and engineers.
