Today we are celebrating a significant milestone with the successful launch of SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket, which is not only transporting critical supplies and experiments to the International Space Station (ISS) but also facilitating groundbreaking research.
This launch, part of the SpX-31 commercial resupply mission, underscores a collaborative effort that includes five years of research led by Professor Ian Hamerton, Professor of Polymers and Sustainable Composites at the University of Bristol’s world-leading Bristol Composites Institute to develop advanced materials for space applications.
These materials will be tested in orbit, and the National Composites Centre (NCC) is proud to have contributed to scaling up their production. After enduring extreme conditions, they will return to Earth for analysis, helping to improve future materials for space applications.
