The National Composites Centre (NCC) is delighted to announce the launch of a new series of conferences, with the first “NCC Discover: Composites Overmoulding 2019” taking place in Bristol on Wednesday 6th November 2019.

World-leaders in composite innovation, design and manufacture, the NCC will be bringing together international businesses across all sectors, to present and discuss advancements in composites overmoulding technology.

Enrique Garcia, Chief Technology Officer at the NCC, said: “The NCC is committed to enabling industry to discover new ways to turn composites innovation into commercially viable products and manufacturing processes. With global demand for composite products set to increase by 4.1% every year up to 2023, research for composites manufacturing has never been so important.

“Composite overmoulding technology specifically allows for the rapid manufacture of net-shape structural thermoplastic composites. It combines both laminate thermoforming and polymer injection moulding in one automated process, thus structural components with a valuable combination of high strength and integrated complex design features are able to be manufactured with a very low cycle time.

“Through NCC Discover: Composites Overmoulding 2019, we are connecting research and industry to allow them to discuss the key challenges they currently face, and the new technology innovations that may assist with solving those challenges.”

Two keynote presentations are confirmed, with additional speakers to be announced. Keynote technical presentations will be given by:

  • Graeme Herlihy, President, Western Europe, of Engel Austria
  • James Myers, Head of R&D for Aerospace and Composite Applications at Victrex

The one-day conference will also feature manufacturing demonstrations of the NCC’s Engel Duo 1700T organomelt research cell, technical poster presentations and guided collaborative workshop sessions. The full agenda will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

The conference will be open to all interested businesses, however a broad spectrum of representatives from plastics injection-moulding, composites manufacturing, OEMs, tier-suppliers, tool manufacturers, Universities and material suppliers are anticipated to be in attendance.
