Smartia and the National Composites Centre (NCC) are excited to announce a MAIO partnership agreement, with Smartia also becoming Associate Members of the NCC.
The partnership will see the deployment of Smartia’s industrial Intelligence platform, MAIO, at the NCC, which will be used to provide the digital thread for the many industry 4.0 projects running at the world-leading research centre. Having worked with the NCC for many years, the Associate Membership provides Smartia further access to NCC’s capabilities and expertise that is vital for technology scale up companies to develop the right solutions for the manufacturing industry.
Over the years, the NCC and Smartia have worked together on a number of industrial IOT and AI projects including:
Smart Automated Fibre Placement: Data driven processing towards affordable automated composite manufacturing. The team developed an AI enhanced application that ran on MAIO, to leverage the power of data to establish a shorter path to first part production.
Autoclave Process Failure Prediction: A Machine Learning based application looking at reducing product failures leading to significant energy and material waste and in turn higher costs and environmental impact
Smart Factory Innovation Hub: A Made Smarter Smart Factory Innovation Hub pilot, looking at reducing the risk of implementing new digital manufacturing solutions such as MAIO within businesses from the manufacturing sectors.
Mauro Arruda, CEO at Smartia commented: “We are really excited to partner with the NCC and help accelerate the adoption of intelligence technologies for composites manufacturing. As part of the partnership, the NCC will be using our MAIO platform on a number of manufacturing cells and will benefit from the full support of Smartia’s industrial connectivity and data science teams to demonstrate value on a number of use cases from asset utilisation to energy optimisation, process control and predictive maintenance across several verticals including Aerospace, Renewables and Automotive industries.”
Marc Funnell, Digital Director at the NCC, added: “The NCC is very proud to welcome Smartia as our newest member and to support the development and commercialisation of the MAIO platform through our new partnership. MAIO technologies and the experts at Smartia provide a significant enhancement to the Digital Engineering capabilities already at the NCC and expand our offer to industry as a digital demonstration factory and technology test bed. Our partnership with Smartia is a natural evolution of past collaborations and core part of the NCC’s strategy to support the scale-up of the UK’s digital SME community.”
