The National Composites Centre is facilitating a series of Technology Days as part of the Composites Technology Forum for UK Defence. Each event will focus on a priority technology theme that has been identified and selected from a consultation with industry and the Ministry of Defence.
Each Technology Day will provide a collaborative discussion space between the Forum Steering Board, the UK industrial supply chain and academic communities that is focused around a priority technology theme.
Technology Days are hosted by the NCC in Bristol. Each event provides an opportunity for participants to present novel materials and manufacturing technology from mid to low Technology Readiness Level (TRL) around a priority theme. This will not only help direct future research projects but will also open up opportunities for collaboration with other participants.
During each Technology Day, the NCC will also outline any current or planned research relevant to the theme and details of how to participate in future NCC-directed research projects or initiatives. There will be a chance to discuss any ‘open’ or ‘future-planned’ public or private funding routes on this topic, combined with an opportunity for the voice of the Ministry of Defence Executive Agencies Dstl, AWE, DE&S and SDA to be heard.

Join our next technology day on the theme: High Temperature Applications in Defence Engineering
High-temperature advanced materials and associated systems technology, play a crucial role in future defence engineering. Engage in cutting-edge discussions and help shape the future of Defence technology
Event Date: Tuesday 17 June
To participate in this invite-only event, submit a 500 word abstract on your core capability, emerging technology, or research ambition. We are interested in;
- Advancements in High Tg polymer matrix composites (Tg>250°C)
- Advancements in Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMC) including ultra-high temperature (UHTCMC) technology
- Materials for heat management in thermal protections systems
- Thermal and environmental barrier coatings for composites including oxidation resistance layers
- Thermal ablatives technology and heat-shielding / insulation
- Aero-thermo-mechanical modelling and performance prediction of composite structures
- Thermal management and structures for hypersonic flight
- Passive and active cooling systems in composite structures
- Materials technology for resistance against laser and/or electron beam ablation
The Technology Days are an invite-only event. To participate, you must submit an abstract for review by emailing [email protected]
Deadline for submitting abstracts: Friday 30 May
Please provide a brief abstract (max 500 words) outlining your core capability, emerging technology, or research ambition relevant to the Technology Day. This will help our reviewers assess your submission. Only successful submissions will receive a response. If selected, you will be contacted and provided with a registration link for the event.
