Introduction to Ceramic Matrix Composites

Understand CMCs and their role in high-temperature engineering applications. You’ll learn why and how CMCs are made, how to select materials, processes, and gain hands-on manufacturing experience.

Overview

From turbine engines to reactors, CMCs unlock new possibilities for engineering. These critical materials, which can withstand extremely high operating temperatures, and require specific know-how for successful design and manufacture. You’ll leave this training module with a thorough foundation for working with CMCs; you’ll understand why making ceramic composites improves the structural properties of ceramic materials, be able to select suitable materials and processes for different requirements, and have hands-on experience of working with some of the common production methods.
