Introduction to Composite Repair

As a Technician or Engineer in the composites world you'll know that as the industry grows and matures there's an increasing need to maintain and repair in-service structures.

Future legislation will dictate that you can't just discard composite components into landfill and the need to repair, in order to extend life expectancy, is set to increase even further.

Repair of composites can be more complex than the repair of more traditional metallic components and, of course, there is always the need to regain structural integrity whilst maintaining functionality.

This is a highly pragmatic introduction to repairing composites. We'll introduce the fundamentals of the topic and give you a solid understanding of the key principles.

What we'll cover:

  • Health and Safety
  • Common types of damage
  • Different repair techniques
  • Three different damage detection methods
  • Two resin systems for standard repairs
  • Three fibre types for standard repairs
  • The terms warp, weft and selvedge

Putting theory into practice:

In our state of the art workshop facility you'll:

  • Perform two types of repair
  • Reinstall a surface finish
