Two new Non-Executive Advisors appointed to NCC Board

NCC has appointed Mark Garrett and Professor Tim Minshall as Non-Executive Advisors, strengthening its Board with significant independent industrial and academic expertise.

As a world-leading innovation organisation that is part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult and the University of Bristol, NCC delivers a range of nationally significant projects across key growth-driving sectors, including aerospace, energy and defence. Aligned with the UK’s modern industrial strategy, it works closely with industry to translate advanced research into practical industrial capability, helping companies adopt new materials, processes and technologies more quickly and with greater confidence.

The organisation is entering a period of sustained expansion, with growing demand for its expertise from businesses of all sizes. The strengthened Board will provide independent oversight and strategic challenge as NCC continues to scale its delivery and impact.

Mark Garrett brings extensive experience in innovation-led industrial sectors and serves on the Council and Audit and Risk Committee at Brunel University. He has deep expertise in industry–academia collaboration and governance in organisations with a similar applied research and innovation remit.

Professor Tim Minshall brings extensive academic and innovation leadership experience from the University of Cambridge, where he has led major cross-disciplinary programmes focused on translating research into industrial impact. His appointment will strengthen NCC’s academic partnerships and deepen links between research and application, working alongside the University of Bristol and broader national research networks.

Both appointments enhance the Board’s ability to support NCC through its next phase of growth, ensuring strong governance, independent challenge and continued alignment with UK industrial priorities.

Rich Oldfield, CEO of NCC, said: “Our mission is to translate advanced research into real industrial capability. Mark and Tim’s experience across innovation, governance and academia strengthens our ability to do that at pace and with national reach.”

Mark Garrett said: “Having worked across innovation driven sectors for many years, I’ve seen the difference organisations like NCC make when industry and academia pull in the same direction. Supporting that mission through independent oversight is an important responsibility.”

Professor Tim Minshall said: “The UK’s research base is world-class, but the real test is how effectively we turn that strength into industrial outcomes. NCC plays a central role in that journey, and I’m keen to help ensure that capability delivers real value for the UK.”
