Wind Innovation Hub
UK's offshore wind innovation engine
An independent, mission-lead partnership
The UK has a major opportunity to strengthen its leadership in offshore wind and realising this will depend on how effectively we turn innovation into industrial impact.
The Wind Innovation Hub (the Hub) is the UK's offshore wind sector’s innovation engine, bringing together industry, government and researchers to accelerate the technologies needed to keep the UK world-leading in wind energy.
Funded by Innovate UK, the Hub is delivered through a partnership between the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult and the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, led by NCC and the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS). The partnership provides a national platform for offshore wind innovation and scale-up.
Mission
To accelerate innovation across the UK’s offshore wind sector, the Hub is focused on the five priority areas of opportunity outlined in the Industrial Growth Plan (IGP) for offshore wind:
- Advanced turbine technology
- Industrialised foundations & substructures
- Future electrical systems & cables
- Smart environmental services
- Next-gen installation and operations & maintenance (O&M)
A central, national platform for offshore wind
A Technical Advisory Group, which includes senior technology leaders from all parts of the UK offshore wind supply chain, will drive industry engagement to:
- Define the sector's innovation priorities
- Respond to funding calls most effectively
- Promote priorities and successes through domestic and international platforms
Accelerating Innovations’ programme
The Hub's first initiative will be the £2 million programme, designed to provide tailored in-kind support to high-growth UK companies developing mission-aligned technologies. Qualifying businesses will be able to access expert technical assistance, manufacturing and materials insight, testing and validation, commercial readiness support and stronger routes to investment.
