Wind Innovation Hub
UK's offshore wind innovation engine
An independent, mission-lead partnership
The UK has a major opportunity to strengthen its leadership in offshore wind and realising this will depend on how effectively we translate innovation into industrial impact.
The Wind Innovation Hub (the Hub) is the innovation engine of UK's offshore wind sector, bringing together industry, government and researchers to accelerate the technologies needed to maintain the UK's global leadership in wind energy.
The Hub is delivered through a partnership between NCC, the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS), both part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, and the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult. Funded by Innovate UK, the partnership provides a national platform for offshore wind innovation and scale-up.
Mission
To accelerate innovation across the UK’s offshore wind sector, the Hub is focused on the five priority areas of opportunity identified in the Industrial Growth Plan (IGP) for offshore wind:
- Advanced turbine technology
- Industrialised foundations & substructures
- Future electrical systems & cables
- Smart environmental services
- Next-gen installation and operations & maintenance (O&M)
A national platform for offshore wind
The Hub will bring together industry, government and academia to:
- Define technology priorities
- De-risk the development and adoption of next-generation wind technologies
- Accelerate the transition of these technologies from advanced research to industrial deployment at scale
Accelerating Innovations’ programme
The Hub's first initiative is the £2 million Accelerating Innovations programme, designed to provide tailored in-kind support to high-growth UK companies developing mission-aligned technologies. Eligible businesses will be able to access expert technical support, manufacturing and materials expertise, testing and validation capabilities, and commercial readiness guidance, including routes to investment.
