Technology themes

New technologies and capabilities will transform the way we design, manufacture, and test new products and processes.

Lead growth sectors

To deliver technology innovation that matters, we build our capabilities around
the needs of industrial sectors. This ensures our work remains focused, relevant, and aligned with our Strategic Delivery Plan.

ASCEND programme

With a cross-sector consortium led by GKN Aerospace & McLaren Automotive, our systems engineering experts developed a Sustainability Maturity Level framework to support transparent, informed sustainability discussions in the supply chain.

Our Impact
Going for Gold

Early career engineers at NCC developed an optimised seat for GB Canoeist Emma Wiggs. The digital capability to monitor structural health over time has broader applications, such as more sustainable through-life wind turbines or hydrogen storage solutions.

Our Impact
Advanced materials

In collaboration with the University of Bristol, we've developed high-performance composite materials that were tested on the International Space Station. The results will inform the design of future space structures, such as space stations & interplanetary spacecraft.

Our Impact
Why Ceramic Matrix Composites matter now - and what the UK must do next

The future of UK defence will be shaped by the materials we can access - and increasingly, by those we can produce ourselves. Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) are becoming critical to the next wave of aerospace and hypersonic systems. They offer a step change in performance where traditional materials fall short.
