Jonathan Fuller, Principal Research Engineer at the National Composites Centre is presenting at Wind Europe - End of Life Issues & Strategies, taking place 1st - 2nd December 2022, in Ghent, Belgium. Jonathan will be presenting 'SusWIND - a viable circular economy for wind' on 1st December, 14.10 - 15.10.
It’s a fact: wind turbines don’t last forever. A large part of Europe’s turbine fleet will come to the end of its operational life over the next 10-15 years.
We also have new energy priorities to contend with. The war in Ukraine has pushed energy security to the forefront. Europe has said it wants 510 GW by 2030. That means a lot of new wind capacity. But it also means we’ll need to maximise our existing assets either through lifetime extension or through repowering wherever we can.
So how much of this capacity can we repower? How much of it will be decommissioned? And is there a way to sustainably recycle all the materials that make up a wind turbine?
The 2022 edition of Wind Europe’s annual End-of-Life Issues & Strategies Seminar (EoLIS) will shed light on these vital questions.
