Mentor Digital and National Composites Centre (NCC) won the 2021 Umbraco 'Best Custom Solution' award for an innovative new e-learning solution developed using the Umbraco Content Management System (CMS).
The Umbraco Awards, which launched in 2017, recognises the best solutions worldwide developed using Umbraco CMS, and showcase these as an inspiration for others. For the 'Best Custom Solution' category, the judges were looking specifically for ''the most impressive custom builds, combining skill and imagination, where Umbraco is used more as a framework than a CMS''. In an exciting collaboration, Mentor Digital worked closely with NCC on a solution which utilised the flexibility of the Umbraco CMS, and extended it into a bespoke, modern and professional e-learning platform.
The NCC is a world-class research hub, where companies can access innovative technology and specialist engineers, to drive innovation in the design, manufacture and application of composite materials. NCC carries out both on-site and online training to organisations wishing to re-skill and up-skill their employees, so it was important for the e-learning platform to reflect the cutting-edge engineering which exists at the heart of NCC.
The award-winning solution delivers engaging and interactive training online, allowing trainees to easily purchase courses, view their course list, download supporting course material and keep track of their progress. With the expertise of Mentor Digital’s creative team, course templates were expertly designed to encompass interactive components such as quiz styles, dynamic image and text carousels as well as video players and animation, allowing the user to cycle through a variety of interactive screens. This approach provides the NCC training team with the tools to easily create their own courses which are formulaic, cohesive and beautifully styled.
Sally Strong at NCC Connect said; “With the support, skills and expert knowledge provided by the Mentor team we now have a learning platform that has started generating income within the first week of launch”.
The solution was also highly praised by the judges, with one judge commenting “…it almost gives me goosebumps when I see how you've built an entire learning platform. It blows my mind how you can do it and make it seem so natural...”.
With so many fantastic nominations in the running, Mentor Digital was thrilled that the hard work of the team has been recognised by the judge’s panel.
